***ALABAMA***
**CONSTABLE**

The Constable is a Peace Officer, elected by voting precinct, but has jurissdiction throughout the county. The Constable has full arrest powers, essentially the same as the Sheriff. The Constable has the authority to enforce both the Traffic Code and the Criminal Code of Alabama*. The Constable has the authority to suppress fires and to act as a Forest Warden. Qualifications to become a Constable are the same as those to become a Sheriff. Your Constable is an elected public official.

The Constable is one of the only two remaining elected peace officers in the world.

THE PEOPLE'S POLICE

Constables have a big job in Alabama working with legislators setting higher standards and training to meet the demands of the future. Although some don't like that message the office of Constable will get the much needed overhaul. It is important for these changes in order to provide the public with the very best of service. The Constable system remains the most cost effective system in America today. The Constable in Alabama is no expense to the taxpayer but is paid on a fee basis by the wrongdoer.

The word "COP" comes from Constable On Patrol: The importance of having men and women in uniform and marked vehicle's will help reduce crime in our community. Today many law enforcement agencies permit officers to take there patrol units home for this same reason.

Local agencies will be relieved of such duties as service of civil process, warrants, escorts, sporting and civic events, freeing officers to target high crime and drug infested area's. Response time for these departments should also improve.
STATEMENT OF COMMON PURPOSE

The purpose of the Alabama Constable is to uphold the law fairly and firmly: to prevent crime, to pursue and bring to justice those who break the law; to keep the peace; to protect, help and reassure the community: and to be seen to do all this with integrity, common sense and sound judgement.

We must be compassionate, courteous and patient, acting without fear or favor or prejudice to the rights of others. We need to be professional, calm and restrained in the face of violence and apply only that force which is necessary to accomplish our lawful duty.

We must strive to reduce the fears of the public and, so far as we can, to reflect their priorities in the action we take.

TAKE A BITE OUT OF CRIME

Everyone has a responsibility to help make the community where we raise our families just a little better. Looking out for one another and taking a stand against crime assures us of a crime free community. Turning your heads and ignoring the problems only give the street thugs and vandals the opportunity to take over the corners of our neighborhoods. Become familiar with officer's working the streets and support them while they serve and protect your community.

Family Support

I am blessed to have a wonderful wife and four loving children that have always supported the giving of my time to help try and make a difference in our community. They have given a precious part of their lives in the support necessary for me to fullfill the duties required of me as a working constable.
